N°02 — The project
Our job here was mostly to stay out of the way of the light.
One room, one window
The brief came from a painter who had worked for years in a rented shed beside the salt pans. She wanted the same thing, done properly: one room, steady light and the water always in view. The building is a single lime-plastered volume with one large window facing the pans.
Inside there is almost nothing to add. A pitched roof of reclaimed timber, a polished lime floor and a long oak work table under the window. An easel, a sink and a stove are the only fittings; everything else is wall and light.
Working with lime
All walls use lime render and lime wash made on site, applied by a local team trained in the traditional technique. The surfaces stay soft and breathable in the salt air, and the white will deepen with every new coat.
